Extending Expanding Enlarging the Firefox Bookmarks Toolbar

Firefox - Bookmarks Toolbar - One Row Into Many - video powered by Metacafe

I really fell in love with Firefox after forcing myself to use it and some of the wonderful extensions with it. I’ll soon be posting my favorite extensions and instructions on using some of them, but for this post I’m going to show you a wonderful fix to annoying problem with Firefox 1.5.0.6.

When you use Firefox for business and personal use, you will find your Bookmarks toolbar filling up in a hurry:

Before

One benefit of IE was the fact you could expand this toolbar at will. Why you can’t here is beyond me. After a little searching, I found this messageboard post:

If that messageboard doesn’t help, maybe this will:

1. Close Firefox
2. Browse to c:\documents and settings\”Your Username”\Application Data\Mozilla\”Something”.Default User(Mine was zmmuzhth.Default User)\chrome
3. Open up the userChrome-example.css file and copy and paste this at the very bottom of the document:

/* Multi-row bookmarks toolbar */
#bookmarks-ptf {display:block}
#bookmarks-ptf toolbarseparator {display:inline}

4. Rename userChrome-example.css to userChrome.css
5. Open Firefox…and here’s the result:

AFTER

Interesting Thoughts
Which is best web browsing software? A lot of discussion wars have been fought over this topic. Arguably firefox is the best of the lot. With its wonderful long list of extensions firefox has a lot of muscle for doing so many things. Others just cant match the power of open source community development for firfox. Annoying problems are non existent while firefox installation is so easy even your grandmother could do it.
