Top Wordpress Plugins - Parts 4/5 of 5: Multimedia, Posts, Social Networking
So finally, after getting all of my host problems out of the way, my DNS records properly propagated and my blog updated with a better looking theme, I believe I”m ready to finally release the final post on the Top Wordpress Plugins by topic. I will be creating a permanent link in the sidebar for quick access to these plugins, and please bookmark THIS LINK for future reference.
Don’t forget to check out Part 1: Administration Plugins
Don’t forget to check out Part 2: Comments
Don’t forget to check out Part 3: Forms & Monetization
Don’t forget to check out Parts 4 & 5: Multimedia, Posts, Social Networking
Multimedia & Photography
WP lightbox 2: A great plugin I use regularly to enlarge thumbnails without leaving the screen. Similar to the way Digg plays its embedded videos on their website. Click on the below image to see it in action.
podPress: An extremely feature rich podcast/multimedia player for your blog. Check out the site for the entire list, but if you’re planning on hosting a podcast or multimedia site of any kind, this is the one to get.
NextGEN Gallery: One of the powerful plugins for displaying a photo gallery. Feature set includes sortable albums,
watermark functions, javaScript effect, multiple CSS stylesheet, slideshows and much much more.
WPG2 - Wordpress/Gallery2 Integration: “WPG2 is a Wordpress Plug-in that embeds Gallery2 within Wordpress to share photos, videos and any other Gallery2 content seamlessly into the Wordpress Sidebar and Blog entries.”
Viper’s Video Quicktags: “Tired of copying and pasting the embed HTML from sites like YouTube into posts on your site? Well then this plugin is for you. Just simply click one of the new buttons that this plugin adds to the write screen (rich editor included) and then paste the URL that the video is located at into the prompt box — easy as that.”
Suggest by Ram of TeknoBites.com
WordTube: “After I get some programming experience with wp-Table I need another easy plugin for my clients. They want to show there own video in the style of Google video or youTube. Again I found serveral plugins (Like WP-FLV) which handle this already , but really not in a easy integration (or I’m to stupid to google for it). Anyway I’m motivated to do it in my own way and learn more usefull things.”
Posts
Head Meta Description: “Head Meta Description provides an automatic meta description tag for your blog, inserting a dynamic description depending on the query-type (i.e. page you’re on). Some search engines are supposed to love this tag, so I guess we should, too.”
Ultimate Tag Warrior: Ultimate Tag Warrior is a multi-headed hydra of a plugin. It allows you to add tags either through the Write Post page in wordpress in a tag box, on posts using an AJAXy box, and in posts using special syntax from external editors (or internally, if you’d like).
Google Sitemaps - UTW Tag Addon: “This WordPress plugin automatically appends all your blog tags generated by the Ultimate Tag Warrior (UTW) WordPress Plugin onto the end of the Google XML Sitemap (sitemap.xml) file as generated by the Google XML Sitemaps for WordPress Plugin.”
SRG Clean Archives: A nice uniform way to display your archives. Click HERE to see it in action.
Popularity Contest: Another genius plugin by Alex King that tracks the popularity of posts based on how many views, comments, trackbacks, etc…they have. These points can all be determined by your own personal settings.
SEO Title Tag: “Inserts search engine optimized title tags using custom field (if defined) or tag name for tag pages generated by UltimateTagWarrior”
Related Posts: Displays posts relating to the one particular post that a user is looking at, and displays them below that post after the user has completed reading them.
No Self Pings: Prevents pingbacks for occurring when you are linking between posts, within your own blog.
Permalink Redirectify: “A WordPress plugin that replies a 301 permanent redirect, if requested URI is different from entry’s (or archive’s) permalink. It is used to ensure that there is only one URL associated with each blog entry.”
Suggested by Everton Blair of ConnectedInternet(06/09/2007):
Simple Tagging: Everton states: “A much improved tagging plugin than UTW, which used to be the king. Easier to use, and more importantly, not a resource hog. Also has some cool features like being able to add tags to feeds and meta tags.”
Hardened Trackbacks: Everton states: “This plugin has been one of the key components of my Spam defence and has singlehandedly eliminated trackback spam. What this plugin does is generate a unique trackback url that must be used within 15 minutes. If a site attempts to leave a trackback without a proper key it is rejected. You can see the trackback generation in place under my posts.”
Social Networking
Share This: Wordpress should honestly take this plugin over from Alex King and permanently embed it into the installation. This plugin removes the clutter of all of the social networking icons, and creates a simple pop-up window to share amongst the many networks out there.
DiggThis: “Digg this wordpress plugin is a plugin that detects incoming links from Digg.com to your wordpress post and automatically display a link back to the digg post, for people to digg your story.”
Interesting Thoughts
For an entrepreneur who wants to start an online phone service the quality of service and pricing are the two main success factors. Quality of service also has external factor not in control of business that is the internet access speed of the customer. Slower speeds will ruin the customer experience. Business can also offer hardware wireless phone for complementing the phone service. First impressions of business website will be full of impact for the customer. Wisely one should avoid budget web hosting services and budget web designing and development providers. For small business ipowerweb is a good option as a quality web host.
