Verizon and YouTube on a Collision Course

It’s been an amazing couple of weeks for YouTube. First the biggest news of any was the Google Acquisition for $1.65 Billionand just this week was named “Invention of the Year” by Time Magazine. Not bad for a couple of young entrepreneurs just looking to share their family video recordings.
Now, it sounds as though Verizon Communications and YouTube are on in “advanced talks” to bring video to both Verizon Wireless for cell phone use, along with Verizon’s cable television network.
This excerpt from eWeek:
Verizon Communications Inc., the No. 2 U.S. telecommunications company, is in advanced talks with YouTube Inc. to bring the Web site’s videos to cellphones and television sets, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.
ADVERTISEMENTA deal may give Verizon a marketing edge over its rivals in the wireless and cable industries, furthering the company’s efforts to expand into Internet and entertainment services, the Journal reported.
